Issued in 40 livraisons, with collective title pages for v. 1 (title page dated 1829-1835, livraisons I-XX) and v. 2 (title page dated 1835-1842, livraisons XXI-XL). Each of the articles within a livraison has its own pagination. Each livraison contains 5 or 6 plates, numbered consecutively, to be inserted immediately following the articles to which they pertain, per instructions to the binder at the end of v. 1; the double plates received 2 numbers (22.4/5 and 28.1/2). Preliminaries in each volume include a "table méthodique" (table of contents listing the articles by general topics); a detailed index ("table analytique") for the whole work is included in v. 2. Over 200 of the illustrations were drawn by Antoine Chazal; a small number are signed J.G. Martin, and a few unsigned. Over 150 were printed by Jean-François Benard, signed by himself alone or in association with Jean Georges Frey, and latterly as part of the form Lemercier, Benard et Cie.; a smaller number were printed by Pierre Langlumé, or by his successor Victor-Hippolyte Delaporte. All coloring, where present, is hand coloring. List of subscribers in v. 1, pages [1]-2 following the title leaf.
